Slow rust bluing is a metal finishing process where the metal is rusted and then polished under controlled conditions. It produces a satin like finish on the metal that is more resistant to rust than factory finished dip bluing. The color will vary based on the composition of the steel being colored, it can be anything from grey to black. Slow Rust bluing is a labor intensive process and even a small iron like pictured below can take 10 hours or so to complete. I don’t recommend it for just any heater, because hot caustic is bluing is so much cheaper (I don’t do caustic bluing) – but if you have a family heirloom or personally special item that you want to stand out – well Rust Bluing is the only way to go. Nothing sais class and treasured like a hand finished satin grey.
Typical this runs $400.00 and this includes return shipping via Fedex Saver box.
Here’s a Winchester Mod 62A – in rough condition, its still a shooter but it is getting a face-lift with rust bluing.
I had to make a new pump stock screw for this one, lol nice match only took 45 minutes!
The customer opted to do the wood himself, so it was left as he brought it
